My Story

My name is Katy Mitchell and I am a History Teacher at Johnstone High School. I think the 2021 City of Culture bid is an exciting opportunity to further develop the awareness of culture and how important it is to our everyday lives.

My name is Katy Mitchell and I am a History Teacher at Johnstone High School. My job involves teaching children aged 12-17 about various events and periods in History and the impacts these events can have on the world.

I have worked for Renfrewshire Council and in the Paisley area for the duration of my teaching career. I have thoroughly enjoyed working in this area and the inspiring young people I work with everyday push me to be the best teacher I can be.

I have been lucky enough to access a wide variety of opportunities throughout my time as a Renfrewshire Council employee, for example being able to contribute to the 2021 City of Culture bid and being able to introduce Advanced Higher History for pupils across Renfrewshire.

Culture influences every part of history and society and is therefore hugely important in the subject I am so passionate about.

I think the 2021 City of Culture bid is an exciting opportunity to further develop the awareness of culture and how important it is to our everyday lives.

Paisley has so much to offer in terms of culture, from its historical buildings to its famous faces.

I think it’s really important to encourage people to be proud of where they are from and the bid would be an excellent way to promote this!
