Your quick guide to this year's Spree festival

Paisley's national festival returns with another fantastic bill of music, comedy, film, dance and much, much more packed into various venues across town from 13 - 22 October.

Tickets are on sale now from The Spree website and you can also buy over the phone on 0300 300 1210 or in person at InCube Shop, 9b Gilmour Street or Paisley Arts Centre, New Street.

Friday 13 October

Opening Concert: A Musical Tapestry featuring Ross Ainslie, Blue Rose Code and Angus Lyon
The Spree twins with one of India's most prestigious festivals, the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF), in a celebration of friendship and a musical collaboration weaving together traditional music from India and Scotland.

Banks Night/Espedair Street
Hosted by Alan Bissett,the inaugural 'Banks Night' is a celebration of the much-missed Iain Banks on the 30th anniversary of his classic Paisley-based novel Espedair Street.

Friday Night Comedy from the Spiegeltent
In association with Gilded Balloon, we bring you four of the best comedians on the Scottish circuit for a night of guaranteed laughs.

Operation Paisley - Alien Pursuit
Big Telly Theatre Company presents an interactive game (part treasure hunt, part immersive theatre) led by actors, traders and volunteers, using multiple locations across Paisley. Are you game? Suitable for ages 7+

Yola Carter and Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards
Bringing a bit of Americana to The Spree are these two superb acts - Yola Carter, winner at the UK Americana Music Awards 2016, and Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards all the way from Boston, Massachusetts.

Sunday 15 October

Lost in France (cert. 15)
A documentary by Irish director Niall McCann, Lost in France explores the rise of Scotland's independent music scene in the 90s, led by cult label Chemikal Underground.

Emma Pollock and RM Hubbert
Two of our favourite acts on the Chemikal Underground roster return to The Spree and share a bill in the intimate surroundings of Paisley Arts Centre.

Sharon Shannon and Fara
Multiple award-winning Irish artist Sharon Shannon will share a stage with Fara, finalists from this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk awards, who hail from the Orkney isles.

West College Scotland Music Showcase
The Paisley-based music students will programme a mix of musical styles, with both solo and group performances - and you'll be amazed how high the standard is!

Tuesday 17 October

Frightened Rabbit with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO)
Performing in the stunning surrounding of Paisley Abbey in a unique collaboration with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, this show from one of Scotland's most beloved musical exports will be a festival highlight.

Renfrewshire Calling
In keeping with the Spree's theme of friendship, several youth music groups throughout Renfrewshire will curate a showcase of young songwriters from the area.

Mad to Be Normal (Cert.15)
This fascinating film reveals the story of R.D. Laing, the famous psychiatrist and one of Scotland's greatest ever minds. Starring David Tennant, Elisabeth Moss and Gabriel Byrne. Presented in partnership with Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival.

Dougie MacLean with special guests De Temps Antan
One of Scotland's pre-eminent singer-songwriters and a national musical treasure, Dougie MacLean, will share the Spiegeltent with De Temps Antan from Quebec.

BBC Radio Scotland's The Janice Forsyth Show from The Spree
Provocative discussions, inspiring guests and news about trends, fashion, music, theatre and art as Janice Forsyth brings her popular BBC Radio Scotland show to Paisley.

Rocket Post
Presented by the National Theatre of Scotland, this fantastically fun new show for everyone aged six and over is a raucous mix of songs and storytelling. Ticket holders can also attend a free family workshop beforehand.

Join Marc Brew Company for a show which blurs boundaries and challenges people's perceptions of identity - a meld of indie rock music with Marc's distinctive choreography.
