Paisley’s Lisa Kowalski is celebrating success after reaching the final of a nationwide musical talent competition.

Lisa’s original song “I Do” was selected by industry judges to be one of 100 songs from over 2000 entries to go to a public vote over a five week period. The six songs with the most votes would continue to the finals.

A public vote is now open to crown the overall competition winner, who will receive a top prize of £50,000.

The competition is spearheaded by the former front-man of The Undertones, Feargal Sharkey, who commented “The top 100 artists being announced to the public …. are truly the cream of the crop of Britain’s musical talent.”

The up and coming musician was thrilled that her very personal and emotive song was chosen, especially as her video submission was a rough recording made during her fortnightly singing lesson.

The song drifted between 4th and 6th place during the first 4 weeks of voting, but dropped to 8th place at the start of the final week. However, friends, family and Paisley Buddies rallied together to support the talented teen – and the final push saw Lisa leap back into the top six once voting closed.

Lisa was awarded funding from Renfrewshire’s Culture Heritage and Events Fund towards her debut EP and the filming of a music video for her Paisley themed song “Hearts of Gold”, which is about her experience of busking on Paisley High Street since the age of 14.

The singer, who has played a number of shows and events in support of Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021, said: “Being recognised on a national level in such a ground breaking competition was a wonderful surprise. It means a lot that success was the result of selection by music industry professionals as well as incredible support from the public.”

The final voting stage in the Salute Music UK is split into two rounds - with the first seeing the top six tracks going head to head via a playlist for one winning vote by the public. The playlist is available now and voting will close at 9pm on Wednesday 1 November.

Round two will see the six finalists release a new track on November 1 for voting through a second playlist. Voting will close at 9pm on Saturday 4 November, with the winner announced at 6pm the following day.
